Aw shame, I was looking forward to hearing how it went. ie was the pain bearable, truly awful, or simply hideous

Well just went for a quickish run, well quicker than my weekend slog of being lost in the dunes. Measured it on google maps and it 3.83 miles taking just over half an hour, with an average speed of 12.05 km/h or 7.5 mph. According to the HRM it was an Avg HR172, Max HR 189, 499 Cals, not quite sure if those numbers are good/bad/indifferent, but probably ok for a shorter run?

I'm pretty pleased for my first quick run in a while, with a few hilly dunes in there. But there's still a fair bit of work to do on getting my pace up.

Very sensible. Overdoing it => injury.

That sounds like not enough rest Hovis. I think you'll find the more you rest the quicker you'll improve on your training days, sounds daft but its true.

Try something like 3 days training, 1 day rest.

You are in danger of an injury, you're overdoing it.

Tim - I don't understand your speed, I need mins per mile! So - as in 8 min miling is reasonably swift, 7 min miling I'd consider fast. Running on sand is hard...

day off today

i was looking for a post on here that said about running 1 longer run per week

i think im going to plan to run for 3-4 days then have a day off.

should i do the longer run the day before or the day after ther rest day?

somthing like this?

week 1) 2 or 3 @ 3 miles. and 1 at 5 miles

week 2) same

week 3) same

week 4) 2 or 3 @ 4 miles. and 1 at 6 miles

week 5) same

week 6) same

week 7) 2 or 3 @ 5 miles. and 1 at 7 miles

Hovis - that looks about right. Do the rest day the day after your long run. I generally try to incorporate 2 or even 3 rest days.
