Melody is right you know. From what i remember from biology at school (which was a while ago now) the euterus lines itself with cells/stuff preparing for an egg to be fertilised, if it's fertilised the the egg attaches itself to the side of the euterus and the stuff. If it's not fertilised then the body gets rid of the cells and hey presto you have a period.

You cannot have a period while you are pregnant because both of these functions cannot happen at the same time.
Indeed, totally different levels of oestrogen, LH and FSH etc involved. That's how some of the pills work, by mimicing the hormone levels of actually being pregnant to stop periods and prevent conception.

That was exactly my understanding and I was in the middle of responding to Cartwirm as such 'til I realised I couldn't express it as eloquently as you

I've certainly heard of vaginal bleeding during pregnancy. So Sammy did your friends Doctor say that her vaginal bleeding was OK & perfectly acceptable or did (s)he say "that is your period"?
I would still be surprised if vaginal bleeding was the same regularity and consistency to be mistaken for 7 or 8 normal periods

Melody is a mid wife, so shes rather experienced to comment!!

Me, well I don't have monthly periods, more like never, because of current contraceptive method. However due to contraceptive method I could find myself pregnant without knowing. The only part of time of the month that i get is severe grumpiness........be warned never ever peee off a blonde at this time!!!

Now, back on topic..........

I do hope Paws that your young cousins 'maternal instincts' come into play, as I wouldn't want to think that the young lass makes a decision she regrets for the rest of her life. I hope her parents and relatives don't try making the decision, or bully her to 'do the right thing' out of their own embarrassment/old fashioned feelings
