I`m staying calm and not gonna comment other than to say Messie + 1
Many thanks for the kind words guys, is nice that sometimes all my waffling is actually regarded as worth reading lol. Re. the cervical smear test the NHS Cervical Screening Programme currently offers smear tests to women between the ages of 25 and 65. Cervical cancer is extremely rare in women under 20. Teenagers' bodies, particularly the cervix, are still developing, which means young women may get an abnormal result when there is nothing wrong. This could lead to unnecessary treatment so screening young women might do more harm than good. Invasive Cervical Cancer is also extremely rare in women under 25 which is why they used 25 as the starting point. |

Agree with you too Messie on the karma thing.
Also, it's good to hear that there is more awareness of this due to a*celeb* being affected, and that kids are taking notice, very positive. |

I would like to say that I am quite frankly appalled at some of the comments being made here.
When did we become such a judgemental mob mentality here???!!!! Who is it that decides if someone is dying with "dignity!" or not and compare one life to another. People are individual from very very different backgrounds. Ms Goody comes from a background of not having very much and knows only how to look out for her and hers. How is it that anyone here can say that this is wrong or that Karma has got it´s way. I don’t think anyone is saying that you should feel a deep sense of anguish for a person you haven’t met, or that you feel upset that they are dying. However a tiny amount of compassion perhaps wouldn’t go amiss. Everyone dies but, not everyone dies in such a horrific way. |

I would say that everyone on this forum will know or have close contact with someone who has had cancer. Sadly this is a fact. None of those will be public figures which is why you won’t have heard of them.
None of them would have had the opportunity to "profit from it". Does this mean that we will have more compassion for those then of a public figure, just because the persona that you have viewed through a highly edited TV drama you dislike?? Incidentally she won’t be able to enjoy the "profit" it will go to her two boys. Would you deny a mother the right to help her sons out in these circumstances?? |

Someone made a similar thread on another forum I go to and it's quite interesting comparing the replies on both forums. On the other forum, not one single post harped on about how 'she was a waste of space'.... Loads of internet judges on the .org it seems.....who have always made every decision in their lives in a manner seen by EVERYONE else, as the 'gold standard in dignity' . ![]() Ben |

Lyle I`m sorry for your loss but there`s just something I want to add as a way of reassurance to other org members who may currently know someone diagnosed with cancer.
The overall message i`m getting from you (it could be cos i`m a health professional and have zoomed straight in on that ) is that your grandad died in terrible pain which is obviously traumatic for loved ones to see and that will be your last memories unfortunately. I just want to say that your grandfather shouldn`t have died in that much pain. There is always stronger painkillers available, in fact morphine has no ceiling dose which means you just keep upping and upping it if need be. There is also the option to add different types of drugs to control the pain. Yes bone pain is one of the hardest types of pain to control but it isn`t uncontrollable... it just takes a bit of time to get the balance right. What i`m trying to say is that not all cancer is painful.... not all patients need pain control. If there is pain present this is one of the reasons why we have nurses who specialise in symptom control so that the pain is controlled be that by syringe driver where necessary. Nobody should have to die in pain these days, so my message of reassurance is that if anyone does know somebody with cancer please don`t automatically assume that they are going to experience pain. With the right support and right health professionals that pain will be extremely well controlled. |
