On a completely on-topic note, Saxo's current one-armed bandit state has left him unable to play his electric guitar.

In order to alleviate his inner musical genius, therefore, he is going to be purchasing a ukelele in the near future. I shall be accompanying him on a kazoo. Look forward to .org rideout performances in the near future...

Very nice! I'd keep the pearl pickguard- looks nice offset against the finish.

Enjoy!

Mmmm, nice! Don't forget to practise your scales. Dishwater dull, but it really helps!

Ooh I forgot about this thread!

That's a nice looking SG mate, me likey!

My guitar career has been less than stellar since I started this thread sadly. After crashing & breaking my collarbone I couldnt practise for ages and even now I'm healed I just never really got back into it. My mate has given up teaching too. I'm moving house on Saturday and had to think long & hard about whether to try & sell my guitar but decided to keep it and give it another go, might see if I can find a new teacher after I move house.

Resurrection time, daughter has been given a fender strat, she gets taught how to play at school, she is nearly 14 btw, and a few of her friends play, a couple of them may be quite good, i always wanted to learn, i used to have a reasonably cheapo acoustic and i was getting a few lessons from my now ex bro in law, after that it fizzled out and i car booted it, so am now thinking of getting another guitar first question is electric or not, or maybe semi acoustic. The thinking from reading the whole thread seems to be start with an acoustic, this is because it will then be easier if you want to go to electric later on correct?
Now the next question and i think i know What you Muzo's are going to say is, how much to spend bearing in mind i is skint really, and even from this thread you can tell it is not an easy thing to learn, so do i want to spend a reasonable amount on something that may turn out to be a fad, when you can start off for less than £100 eg, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ELECTRIC-GUITA...item2c52e9650d

or, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hudson-HC-1-Be...item4152cdb79c
ok that last one i could afford a bit more no doubt, mind you, it is something i would like to accomplish but we shall see, your thoughts please, cheers andy.

Absolutely no idea re those manufacturers, sorry- not heard of them.

They're probably OK starting guitars.

It really depends on what sort of music you want to play. Yes- steel string (opposed to nylon) acoustics will be harder on your hands at first, but will make things easier on the transition to electric.

You could probably get a better acoustic for the price of the electric starter set- but that is a pretty low price to start with.

As I've stated before, though- if you can, get something you really like, as it'll encourage you to play it more! So it may be worth a trip to the music shops to look around...
