As long as you are careful when trying to do stuff to your bike and stop when you think something doesn't make sense you should be ok.
I appreciate the help that I get and I hope that the people who do truely know about bikes don't stop helping people like me.
Thanks all to those who have helped the many
I agree totally with this, I too know nothing and the advice I have been given so far is A1 and actually I wouldn't have been able to do the things I have done without it.

I ask for the advice and help and then when I receive it, it is my job to decide whether or not to take it and so far the ORG hasn't been too far wide of the mark.

Today I fitted a hugger that I was struggling with, I made a post and within minutes I was back on track towards fitting it. Since being a member I have got a shed full of autosol and before the ORG I wouldn't have even known about it.

I'm not saying the ORG is always right and I'm sure that from time to time people do get things wrong, but I doubt very much if it is ever done intentionally ALL posts are put on here with the very best intentions with the faint hope that your post might actually help another less adept than you and believe me it helps.

The ORG has saved me money, given me good advice, helped me with issues I couldn't have resolved myself and most importantly it has given me somewhere to air any issues/feelings I may have when none of my car driving mates would really give a t**s!

You decide if the advice is good or bad, if you were that concerned you would pay an industry expert.

Good post, I agree.

I too am a relative novice when it comes to getting my fingers dirty, but I'm learning, and in fact have an MZ ETZ 301 ( http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/mod...etz301%202.htm ) project currently in total disassembled state. Sometimes the best advice you can get is from the guy just like you, who assumes that you know as little as they did/do and has not forgotten how tricky the simple jobs can appear to a newbie. Combine that with added input from an expert and you can't go far wrong.

right then........

when i first joined i did not know a thing about an SV (though i did know a bit about trials & motorcross)

i think i have learnt alot off people on here and feel what i have learnt i need to pass on to newer members.

i will only answer a post if i know or think i know, & will not post replys to tecnical questions im not sure on.

although there is about 10-15 people on here who realy do know everything on the SV i feel that everyone should be able to help each other out.

nobody would give wrong advice on purpuse(hopfuly)

& normally if sombody does make a mistake, it gets rectified pretty quick

just my opinion

I followed a simple rule for getting advice. Id wait til Sid Squid or Rictus posted and then followed their advice. Because knowing these guys irl, I know pretty much how much they do know about bikes and any advice they give will be balanced and correct.

No disrespect to anyone else, its just I know Sid and Rictus really know what theyre talking about and that gives me a certainty I dont have with many others on here tbh.

You all realise that a lot of the comments in this thread were made nearly two years ago....

But has anything changed?

It sounds like most of us would like all the above to be taken into consideration before people post technical replies, but we would still like as many replies as possible so that our own considered opinion can be reached.
So are we agreed that people should not be put off from venturing their honestly held opinion of a solution to questions asked?

I agree, 2 conflicting, or different views means you get more information on what you are doing and can make an informed choice, even if one is completly wrong, it is usually argued against before someone has the time to screw thier bike up. and if not, 90% of the stuff you do you can undo, (except things involving saws, or welding)
