Exactly.
Just because Luckypants doesn't like people getting huge chunks of their body blown away, leading to probable death.

Just because Luckypants doesn't understand how great it makes them feel to shoot people, he goes flying off the handle and says people should only have guns if they need them.
You are so intolerant Luckypants.

What about people with guns?
What about the people who like blowing other people away??? What about their rights?

Do you ever think about them? Huh? How your silly PC ways are cramping their shooting style? HUH???

Yeah. Exactly.

You never met me, so how do you know how tolerant I am? What don't I understand?

I'll admit I am not tolerant of the fact that guns held both legally and illegally are used on a daily basis to kill and maim people in this country.

I find some of the comments made in this thread drooling over weapons designed as a means of killing or maiming a person worrying and a little offensive.

I think you do need to justify why you want to hold a weapon capable of causing death. I accept there are valid reasons to have a gun and if you meet these then you are granted a licence to own one. However the sentiments expressed towards guns in this thread (and others) suggest that some people see guns as fun things and this are definitely not what they are.

These are my opinions and if it's arrogant to express them, so be it.

Mike. I have a big problem with your argument as I was a legal gun owner. In two very high profile cases. Legal owners have proved themselves not worthy of the trust placed in them. However in both cases it was the police who failed to uphold the responsibility to ensure the fac holder was a fit person.

Drooling over guns. No way. I much prefer real porn. However. I did enjoy using them for what they were designed to do. ie spit lumps of lead out the end. A lot of my shooting was done with coppers. Ironicicly the last person I rode with was a copper. Therefore are you suggesting all minority sports including biking should be prohibited. after all we legislate against motorcyles, the number of dead/injured as a result of motorcyles improves and we can justify such draconean measures.

Well thats the point we are already at with your argument. as already there is no legal ownership of firearms in the UK. Thank you Tony.

At the point where we stopped legal ownership. It was stated that if guns where banned only criminals would own them. Guess what. The prophecy has come true. Gun crime has risen. Fact. No longer can the easy target of the legal owner be blamed. Beause there is no such thing any more.

The range I used, had a charter explaining its purpose. whilst the original interpetation was militaristic in attempting to provide to the country trained marksmen. There was also a requirement to instill discipline in the use of arms. Maybe if todays youth actually understood the meaning of self discipline. the aims of the firearm ban in the Uk could have been achieved

Look at some numbers that don't include replicas and air weapons, you'll be surprised. 14000 of all of the 21500 reported firearms offences in the UK in 05-06 were confirmed to be air weapons or replicas. Of the remaining 7500, many were no doubt also replicas or air weapons- the assumption is that they're real and live unless proven to be otherwise (by arrest or by discharge, usually)

There's a long term trend of rising gun crime that can be followed since records began- while it does continue to rise, the rate of climb has actually fallen since the handgun ban, despite the rise of imitation offences and the inevitable rise of possession offences (caused by formerly legal weapons becoming illegal) With the exception of a spike in 2001, firearm homicides have remained pretty stable. Ironically 1996 was the lowest year in the last decade. 2006 was the second lowest. Fact.

I'm reluctant to mention that crime recording is now massively more strict and coherent than it was even a decade ago, because it always sounds like a copout, but it's also completely true.
