Re: What have you tinkered with today?
I'm gonna carry on blaming the bike. Or the traffic.

It's easy enough to do. But remember to check how the old lifter was put in - they can come apart but have 3 or 4 ways they go back together, so its worth looking to see how it was before! Loosen off the clutch cable fully and then undo the two bolts that hold the lifter in place. You may need to use some pliers to get the cable out of the old lifter, just be careful you don't damage the cable. Pop the cable in the new lifter, bolt it on with the two bolts and then do a full clutch cable adjustment as normal. The adjuster screw on the new lifter will probably be wound a long way out. It really is that easy. Please resist the urge to pull the rod out of the clutch housing - its a wet clutch and you dump oil if you do that. Whenever I do anything on the clutch adjustment I always check and adjust the chain too. |

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
I always found the standard clutch cable on my curvy S made the clutch very heavy. On one occasion the nipple at the lever end of the cable gave way, so I had a look at the various old cables I have in my garage and found one off of my old GSXR GK71F which was a perfect fit. Despite the metal conduit at the top of the cable being a sharper bend the clutch was suddenly really light to use, and as a bonus the cable no longer touched inner fairing/dash.
It's this one. |

Thanks for that.I have already had that number 17 off when I first got the bike and did the,"Clutch Mantra" and greased it up.It's still operating fine but I like to be pre-emptive on some things

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Never had a serious problem with the cable being too heavy (maybe I have a strong left wrist)
I do (very occasionally) lube the cable though with a PTFE lube. I find lube works well with anything stiff. |

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Let me know how you get on with it Mav, if you make the change. If I remember correctly the cable I used wasn't one of the Slinky Glide ones but an original Suzuki cable. It's been on there for a couple of years now I think.
