At the end of the day, Police are human. We have faults. Inevery organisation in the world , be it Police, banks, large businesses, small business, etc etc, you will always have the odd "bad apple" as it were. Those other organisations don't get tarred with the same brush but oddly, the Police always do.

I guarentee it's all I will hear from the bad element of the public everytime I go to deal with something. And I have NEVER even been to London before.
+1 from me. This thread was aimed at questioning the ONE police officer. I would defend almost any action from a police officer using force to protect himself or others, but having to approach a man from behind that has already passed you to hit you and push you is not right.

My fear, as I have said to MBK already is that the public and courts will damn the police for this, when it is only that officer that needs it.

And you'd have been breaking the law for doing that. I'm not sure from your last post if you know all the details as you assumed Ian Tomlinson chose to be there. I replied to your other post, on page 10 which I don't know you have seen. Not to have a go, just to get the facts across in case you didn't know them already.

Funny thing is, you are defending the police, yet if you were one and acted the way you say you would, you would be more damaging to their reputation than the officer in question is!

You seem to forget that here in the uk we are policed by consent-if the people who live in a certain area of a city decide that police attendance is no longer acceptable its quite easy for that area to become a no go place for anyone in uniform.
You have a problem with the police dizzy, plain and simple, your using this incident to mouth off your beliefs and dislike for the police. What happened to this guy was out of order and the cop must carry the responsibilty for this.
I joined the police to give something back to people,to try and help make the place we live in better for the kids of the future,I come from a council estate, and work with people cut from the same cloth, trying to do the best that they can for the people we serve-you get out of this job what you put in-treat people like crap and its returned tenfold, show respect and humility and its returned.

There have been some very intellegent and thoughtful comments posted regarding this incident and some dam right offensive ones, I for one was wary of posting because I will no doubt be accused by some of siding with the copper no matter what i post but after reading the above comment I feel that the line between whats acceptable and whats not has been crossed.
It goes without saying that there are loads of police who really want to do a good job, of course

But the general attitude just sucks. For the record, I'm well behaved. I don't have any convictions, nights in the cells or even a cross word from them. So it's not me moaning about them giving me hassle, my experience of the police is when I'm trying to report a crime. I tried my hardest living in Manchester to defend my house and property, and was consistently let down by police. Trying to get them out was impossible, trying to reach them on the 'emergency phoneline' was a joke, and when I had the video evidence they needed to prosecute two lads who terrorised the neighbourhood, they never got round to picking it up (who then broke in to my block of flats twice, and trashed my bike in the weeks afterwards). Even after being mugged in broad daylight, the police made me answer questionaires about the muggers' ethinicty down to such minute detail, as that seemed to be all they wanted.
Incidentelly I now go out with a bat when there's trouble outside.

And for balance, we once had a cute officer who came around dusting for prints

Theres not enough police officers in the UK to give the public the service it needs and deserves.

Roughly 140000 police officers for about 58 million people or 1 police officer per 414 public.

They should just make it legal to beat chavs. Crime would fall in an instant

I appreciate the imbalance, and the morale-sapping paperwork that needs to be done. I'm not trying to pretend the police have it all-easy

If he had stayed at home, instead of jumping on the anarchist bandwagon, he could have been in the pub getting drunk and claiming more free money from this soft government of ours.

I know that a majority of police officers agreed with the peaceful side of the march, and ones I have spoken to, would have been the other side of the line.

What about the guys who damaged, the RBS branch, surely something should happen to them, but oh no they get off with not even a slapped wrist, because everyone is afraid of stepping on someones toes and upsetting them.

Sometimes I wonder if I should be doing what I do, or give it all up, and become a free loading tax dodging scumbag, cause it seems they rule this country.

Out of interest, how much violence was there at these protests? Seems there was one bloke in a tracksuit threw something at a window surrounded by 200 press...

this guy was on his way home from work and got caught on the wrong side of a police cordon.

Fair rant about the benefits etc. but what has that got to do with the thread?

If he was on his way home from work, Why then was he blocking the road to a police van an hour before the incident in the next street down.
