Personally I just think she's tried some sh*t software on windows but any truth in that? Some graphic software only available on OSX or soemthing?

Which would be retarded if you were building graphics software anyway.

Grimey so the fact that you already paid double for the device and are forced to purchase media from a specific source not agree with your idea of "cost"?
If you read my post, i didn't pay double for my hardware, I paid slightly more than a Windows based laptop but got 7 hours battery rather than 3 (which i needed). Also i got a lot of extra features which windows couldn't provide me for photography.

What media am i forced to purchase?

While out taking images, I needed a computer that would allow me to preview canon raw files natively without importing each batch of images into software such as adobe bridge, this alone saved me a great deal of time and it allowed me to shoot in raw only, perviously using a windows based PC i had to shoot raw+jpeg (i used the jpeg to preview the image) which meant that for every 1 image i took the camera had to save 2 which ate away at my camera memory as well as limit how fast my camera could shoot in burst mode.

iphoto is great for facial recognition in photos as well as organising them, this is nice when you have 10 of thousands of images and you camera can take new ones at a rate of over 6 per second

I do the odd bit of video and windows is unable to edit HD footage with movie maker, which means you have to either buy software in the region of 70quid or download some buggy pirate version, imovie is easy to use and works well and its included.

Try getting windows preview to flick between 15 meg jpegs and it will crap out on a regular basis, mac preview doesn't.

Abobe photoshop works a lot better on a mac

No but at the time the mac was the best compromise,
Powerful laptops with crap batteries - no good
Slow laptops with good batteries - no good

I managed to spec a 13" dell at the time with the same cpu and batt life as my mac and it was 1400quid, other than that nothing else came close

HAHA, you haven't got a clue have you? Battery life is not a feature of any OS, just use the massive savings you made with a PC to buy a few spares or plug into a generator you bought with the savings...

Have you even used windows before?

1. Windows thumbnails and previews RAW files in exactly that same way as jpegs

2. Any freeware photo organiser will do what iphoto does

3. Movie Maker does handle HD footage just fine, and you can download any number of free video editors that do the same.

4. Windows preview can handle any size image just fine if your computer has suitable hardware, or you can download any free viewer for more features

Now that's just funny, how does it "work a lot better" - has it been optimised for fisher price one button mice?

Still waiting for some real features you get that you can't on Windows...

For some people computer server a purpose other than surfing the web,

If you mad into games you will get a pc everytime, they win hands down
If you are into "creative stuff" macs generally win

I know a lot of photographers, graphics designers and web designers, there is a reason large companies in this field have suits of macs it isn't because they are stupid and waste money its because its a tool and it does a job for them.

Likewise if you into games etc you would be stupid to get a mac, you may as well get a pc as the games run better on them and you also have a bigger selection

(No but at the time the mac was the cheapest one to offer good battery performance and also a powerfully CPU)

Have you even used windows before?
(err yeah I work in IT and make a lot of money from it)

1. Windows thumbnails and previews RAW files in exactly that same way as jpegs (Err no it cant, the x64 version of the codec doesn't/didn't exist)

2. Any freeware photo organiser will do what iphoto does
(name one)

3. Movie Maker does handle HD footage just fine, and you can download any number of free video editors that do the same.
(Fact- movie maker doesn't support AVCHD which is used almost exclusively for HD camcorders, which HD format are you refering to?)

4. Windows preview can handle any size image just fine if your computer has suitable hardware, or you can download any free viewer for more features
(how many 15+ mb jpegs do you have)

Now that's just funny, how does it "work a lot better" - has it been optimised for fisher price one button mice? (macs have a right click)

Still waiting for some real features you get that you can't on Windows...
(Can i ask how much photography you do)

Have you ever used a mac before?
