I like iOS and now apple products but I don't claim windows phone or android are rubbish or belittle their users. It is a decision for each person. Can't people lighten up or is the next step burning the heretics?

This cannot be reconciled with wisdom, justice and love...
well said mate.

I'm pretty sure in most of those cases these things were scanned in as the initial match first. The phone is doing exactly what they've asked. Practically, you have chosen to scan your cat's paw as the unlock image, it saw the cat's paw, it unlocked the phone. This doesn't demonstrate it being insecure. I'd be surprised if a phone with a good fingerprint scan was acting that way.

ah see i should have got my facts right first, i thought it would only read fingerprints to unlock it and other things wouldn't be able to.

The tech essentially just reads ridges and grooves in a particular pattern.

So theoretically you could use anything that has those properties. Elbow, chin, your teabag.

Program it in first and job done.

Oh and while everyone calls it a fingerprint scanner, you will note that apple have said it's called Touch ID. So they have worked that one out, probably to avoid wise cracks like yours (no offence) from the journos etc

Just updated my iPad to the new iOS. Wasn't going to risk doing my phone first just incase. First impressions are it's awful!! Seems like a step backwards to me. Some of the icons are flat and basic. Only had a couple of mins on it but me no likely and won't be doing my phone anytime soon.

I think they went for "simplistic design"

Just for info, most finger print scanners can be overcome anyway, so none are secure.

Why? Simplistic design or lazyness?

Why make something graphically worse?

Reaction seems to be fairly mixed, some people prefer it over previous design.
