Just been spannering about....think my luck might be running out guys - my cylinder head cover is bent & actually cracked at the front and has a few fractures at the back and I'm guessing these aren't easy to get hold of. What sort of pressure are they under would it be possible to hammer it straight and use a bit of chemical metal on the mofo?

Also there seems to be a lot of suspicious drips of oil about I'm a bit worried the engine's blown in other places but guess I can't fund out until it's running. Behind the gear change and under a bulge (clutch cover?) above the oil level viewer look particularly suspect.

Do NOT use a large screwdriver, you will just annoy the next person who tries it with the proper tools. It is 10mm. Then a 17mm socket to turn the crank. The inspection port is 8mm.

The cover is not a structural part. as such.

Take the rear one off, drill and tap the hole for the rad bolt. Take the knackered front one and chemical metal it.

Or alternatively give me some beer vouchers for a replacement Only ones I have are black.

Cheers chris, why should I swap the front one (weaker one) to the back? is it absolutely necessary or could I just bash and repair the front one and put it back on. Eitherway I have a feeling there may just be some beer vouchers comin your way My engine's black anyway. It is pretty bent at the front so probably wouldn't seal right- I'll get a piccy.

The back one is not loaded by a radiator rattling about on it, so doesn't need the strength.

A bit late but I will confirm that is correct, as you would expect from Chris.

Thoroughly clean the engine up with degreaser and then check it daily for any signs of where the leak is coming from. Someone on here also suggests using talcum powder to locate a leak.

Yup that shows it up really well. Clutch cover is usual suspect in that area. Easy fix.
