I guess with smart phones, the phone function has become secondary.

Lol, one would have thought the big phone symbol would have given you a clue.

I just wish that as Android is open source, that someone would build something similar.

On Android, i find the file system on the Desire a complete nightmare and the software that comes with it to sync, is total pants.

As for syncing music. WMP picks it up as a device and happily syncs to my phone if needed i also have iSync app which does the same with Itunes, but not out of the box.

Anyway, this isn't really answering the question.
What do you want to sync with?

What i end up have to do is google search for the app i want then look on marketplace by searching for the name. Even then some phones only see certain apps, i assume its because they are incompatible, but there is no indication of that at all, so you don't know why you cant find it.

Its just bloody awful.
Indeed, and I know my iphone loving friend has to use google to find app's too, I know because he found an app for android that did what he wanted but he was struggling to find one for his iphone, lucky it found that the same fella made it for ios. Anyway, since google is a google product its still part of the package

One thing that DOES annoy me is that you can no to choose as a default where the app stores on the droid. You have to move after its installed. It would also be great if you could store ALL apps on the memory card
I have my card details registered to my account... how's that not happened to you? At least with android you dont have to put in any card details just to get a free app!

Unfortunately store on memory card is down to the person who wrote the app. It will get better with time. Be glad you can actually save apps to your memory card at all, some people cant

What phone you got?

There are some apps that arnt available for older/low spec phones, its fairly often because they wouldnt handle them. Shame apple didnt take that line tbh, my friends 3G is pretty much crippled

No not my phone, surprisingly the the G1s hardware is still better than the basic android phone of today lol. Mostly the issues are down the screen resolution id assume.

However support for android phones is dropped pretty quickly, the G1 was left behind on 1.6 and needed rooting to progress further.

Now quit with all the geeky threads lol

I can't deny this is a problem. I don't understand how the manufacturers can't figure out that better and longer support means its more likely that people will get another on upgrade. Heh.

Part of the issue is also probably down to how fast Android seems to be progressing, which is both very good and bad.

It does seem to be a res thing as you say with a lot of restriction.

Ah don't worry too much about the op, its all good.

I've never sync'd with outlook (try to leave work at work ). Is not stopping it as simple as going to "accounts & sync" in options and turning it off?

Firewall must be too keen! Ha ha. Odd one.

Not syncing email etc, but backing up of data etc. I have mine happily using SyncML to works email, and all their other stuff. I actually think that my PC is shot as it sycned fine to my mums laptop when i tried.

I have a desire for the record and more than happy with what i use it for.
