Well now that I've had time to cool off & reflect on it, considering its just the 11 year old brake pipes which have failed & everyone assures me are easy to do (just that they're time consuming) I guess it's better than if it had failed on rusty everything like one of the older campers. One guy on't t4 forums says to check if the pipes are that bad, scotchbrite them so they look newer & then cover in grease to protect them AND also means the mot tester can't remove grease to inspect them. On one hand 'nice idea', on the other 'you do realise brakes are quite important?'..

Pads & discs - you've gotta say fair enough, they are consumables after all. Just a bit of a crap time of year for it with being skint.. Hey ho, atleast I get to lay some miles down on the bike!

Gonna photograph all the repair work and log all the parts & prices into the build log. Only 9 days left to get it sorted!!

Would pay to cover the new pipes in grease or waxoyl, but not the old ones

So had kev the practical bastad round earlier, looked at the brake pipes - they're gonna be too tricky to get right without a ramp, decent lighting, patience etc.. so we've decided a proper garage will do a better job of them..

But the pads & discs & track rod end should be easy enough to do ourselves. Gonna ring round a few garages to get quotes for the pipes doing.

Righto, another update (no pics again though as nothing has really changed with the look of the van).

Had the van into another MOT station who decided that 4 of the 6 failed pipes were absolutely fine and just needed cleaning up.. 2 of them definitely needed doing but no sweat they also failed the handbrake cable which was genuinely on it's last legs (where the first mot station only advised for it?) and also replaced both rear discs and pads..

£370 all in for the pads, discs, pipes and handbrake cable all supplied and fitted and supplied with a fresh new MOT - BARGAIN!

So the van is back on the road! Jobs to sort out: the window in the sliding door has worked itself loose since we fitted it (top left corner is moving slightly ) so tomorrow all being well we will be removing it and re-fitting it with some fresh tiger seal, as well as addressing the actual aperture in the door to make sure it was just an issue with the way we applied it as opposed to the shape of the metal being wrong.

Also needs to GET THOSE BLOODY SAAB SEATS FITTED PROPERLY!!!

I bought one of these from ebay, but it's coming from slovakia and hasn't arrived yet (estimated 2 weeks delivery).. Should spruce things up nicely.

Money is tight at the moment so we'll have to see how we get on with adding other gadgets & bits of trickery, but only having an FM/AM/Cassette radio is starting to drive me mental.

I just bought a dash tidy for mine, still to fit mind. A cheap mod at £20!

I quite like the size of my normal wheel, that one looks quite "sporty". I can't remember, have you got lowered suspension etc?

Yep -50mm all round tim rear springs were £70 from CMC (cheshire motorcaravans) and about as cheap as cheap gets.. the front just winds down so all you need is a 27mm (iirc) spanner.

If only we could afford some generic alloys to fill the arches out, then it would look slammed
