First off, what you've done with the look is superb. Really is. Transforms the bike. You've done a great job.
Ok, now those tyres. Fit them. Its like saying, I'm not gonna take my 600HP rear wheel drive Ferrari to the track because its raining, so I'll use my Fiat Punto instead?! If the Maxxi's aren't good enough in the cold then the SC's will be better. Leathers - why do you need to get the knee down? The SV can lean pretty well whether or not the knee touches the ground. If its to improve balance then fine but it didn't look as if you were anywhere near the limit of the bike in the vid. As you've said yourself, there a little ways to go yet before you get used to the bike. I say this not as a criticism by the way. I can't get my knee down because of my leathers, but then when I check the rear tyre, its almost on the edge. So the bike is very capable, just not powerful. Looking forward to the next instalment. |

Thanks for the critique and let us expand further. Regards tyres, its not the cold really that I'm worried about, more the surface conditions should they be wet (And I mean peeing it down not just dampness) If the general consensus is that the Pirellis will be able to clear standing water as good as a normal road tyre then I'll fit them. They just look a little "slick" to me. Leathers are two fold, one is protection, the ones I used before aren't very well armoured. Two, they fitted quite well apart from the hips and knees making weight control limited and I wanted to improve that before really attacking. To me its more important to make sure you feel comfortable using a tool before you start making the masterpiece! So I got some decent Hein Gereicke one piece leathers with much nicer armour and flexible joints for £165 of the ebay. And they're black n silver, why wouldn't you!! Having only ridden any bike for the first time in April 2012 and passing Mod 2 mid August I think I deserve some slack in learning how a bike really works and I'm taking my time about it! Grateful for your comments and yes, I'm looking forward to the next instalment too!! |

Leathers, again all sensible reasons but you mentioned knee down hence my opinion. The first thing I did after my first track day was get leathers, much for the same reasons so good buy. As for the video, you should watch my track video on youtube. I arrived on my bike to see a paddock with tents, generators and tyre warmers. I blinked and thought I was in Moto GP for a minute! Needless to say my video consisted of me getting passed by everyone. But its still amazing how slow everything looks in the video, when it feels so much faster on track. It was no criticism of your riding, just an observation of what most in your position will have gone through. You will indeed come to see that even an SV650 has enough to teach you before you will reach all its limits. Enjoy the ride dude. |

In the p1ssing rain I wouldn't bother with the sc's as they're crap in the wet. if it's dry stick em on and you'll gain a bucket load of confidence,I've seen some people take the proper p1ss on them with over double the power so more than sticky enough for anything an sv can throw its way.
Next time just take the pirellis With you and if it's dry get the tyre man to swap them. |

Good evening....really good job on your project.... I'm looking at changing my track fairings soon for at the moment struggling with cluttered/obtrusive/limited lock bars . Which Gixer ( i.e K4,K5,K6 did you use as they look spot on and seem spacious around the steering head. Also do they use original SV side mounting points. With regard tyres get those Super Corsas on as they are really good but get wets for when its wet ( Interacts are my choice.) Regards Richard. At Cadwell on 29th if you fancy a run out.

Hi Mate,
I believe these were advertised as K4/K5 fairings when I got them. They use the original side mounts plus a little extension with some L shaped strips of metal. Then two more brackets at the back, one of which pre-existed to fit the original belly pan and one I made to hang down from the exhaust bolt near the pegs on the right hand side. As I say the only awkward bit was the clock bracket, we messed about chopping bits off the original and then I got the SES one instead! |
