Get JamesMio to take up through dumfries and galloway avoiding at least half of the M74, what a great couple of roads. Well worth the detour.

the road from galashiels upto gorebridge is ace... did it about 2 months ago. Bit like a longer and slightly less tightly cornered version of the snake pass in the peak district should be a nice break from the motorways

Me and KG took the road running next to the motorway from Glasgow to Kendal when heading for the Peaks weekend. Was fun
