You will find most marketing depts user mac's, me and my boss didn't want the hassle of having a pair of macs on our network but the FM manager gave into the requested from the marketing department.
Me personally would never buy a mac, I'm a gamer and like to chop and change my components when needed and would rather spend the money on a high end gaming rig.
But I really don't understand these arm chair hero's feel the need to keep pointing out that you can get other gear that does the same for cheaper and trying to make fun of other peoples purchases, I do feel sorry for people who live these sad little life's that they have got nothing better to do than sit on the internet all day trolling threads and posting $hit.
If people want to spend their hard earned cash on a sleek piece of hardware and have the money to do so then good on them.
Some may think its a waste of money but if the user is happy then wtf does it have to do with you or me.
Its like walking into a sofa shop and saying all theses do the same job, lets just buy the cheapest one we can find. Bull $hit you get the one you think is most comfortable to sit on and the one you like the style of.
If you walked into my house and stared mouthing off that my choice of sofa is crap, a waste of money and I am a moron when the 300 quid one from argos would do the same job, you would be leaving with a broken limb of some form.

Ours does, all the guys and girls that work in the catalogue design department use them. They use Quark and the printers that produce the catalogue are geared up to take the files from quark / mac format ( .eps files IIRC )

We asked about using PC's for it and they laughed said no and also said it would causes issues with the printers as well.

Again its just another example of using the right tool for the job isnt it.

For starters MACs are much better value than PCs. They may be more expensive to buy but they keep they value over time. My Mac Pro, purchased in 2006 for £2,000 now sells on eBay for £1,500. My Mac Mini purchased in 2007 for £399 was sold 2 month ago on eBay for £320. Any PC will loose 75% of their value in the first 2 years. Same with most Apple products, be it iPhones, Mac Books or iMacs.

It's all about the user experience. The OSX is faster for me and is not because of the memory bandwidth or CPU cycles. At the end of the day I work a lot faster and accomplish a lot more on a system with a more advanced and intuitive user interface. That is why most media workers prefer Mac's and not because the cases are made of aluminium.

A Mac will never do everything a PC does and neither the other way around. I still have a PC on my desk and also some linux machines and I use each for what they do best.

There is certainly an advantage of having the software and hardware made and tested by the same company.

Erm .eps = Encapsulated PostScript

Which can be quite happily generated by PC versions of Photoshop AND GIMP.

They lied.

I'm not surprised, they were and are very resistant to change.

I can kind of understand they have invested in MAC's and have been using them since before I started at Screwfix which was well over 10 years ago.

I didnt really get into an argument about it, as we dont support them anyway its all done by a 3rd party so its not a headache for us.

Yes, I do. An upgrade to my 2 year old laptop would cost me £300. How much would it cost you to upgrade your 2 year old laptop PC? (assuming you are talking about a £1200 laptop)

It is a lot easier and faster to develop a software based on a limited number of hardware platforms (Mac's) than having to test and address issues with thousands of component manufacturers. This way they can concentrate more on features and less on compatibility issues. Less compatibility, less compromise.

And of course, they would make more money by selling both hardware and software.

This is where Microsoft comes into play and offers an incredible amount of flexibility.
