As for speed I find my ex AA 2.5TDI pretty swift, not a sports car, but will happily sit at 80-85 (if a bit boomy) and pulls well. Although I heard the AA ones were chipped/remapped for more mid range to aid towing, not sure how true that is...

As far as I ever read, the blue i TDI's are 88bhp and the silver i TDI's are 102bhp (the AA vans were all silver I 102's)... But then they had a lot of extra gear fitted to them so could well have. My 88bhp was always good for cruising at 80-85, just took a tiny bit of encouragement to get it there. Apparently fitting an intercooler from an l200 warrior (cheap option) or buying an intercooler kit from vansport/tidy transporters etc. (expensive option) gives the blue i's a bit more power, then remap can take them upto and beyond the 102's (about 130ish).. But then remap the 102's and they'll be more or less the same.
