thought I'd reopen this thread with some more pics of what I've been up to today....I wanted polished rims on her, as my other bike has them, and I think thy are nice on that one
The rims on suzy were pretty scabby..a mix of silver paint, and corroded scabs, so i didn't have anything to lose by doing it. I bought some 'Blackfriars' paint and varnish remover from the hardware shop, and set to. I managed to get three done today. After a couple of coats and a scrub with fine wire wool, the Suzuki emulsion came off to reveal how scabby she actually was.....but they were shiny scabs. SO, then I wiped all the mess away and polished them with some autosol and wire wool. I'm not overly keen TBH, as the silver inner rim doesn't cntrast as well as the black ones on the black bike....but it is a drastic improvement to the original mess.

Yesterday I did the scabby rear footpeg hangers too. They came up really well, although the sun had gone in by the time i took the photos this evening, so the blinding bling doesn't come across so well. A while back I had a go on polsihing the spare hangers from my other Sv...then found that the exhaust one had been chopped to fit over the hi level that its got. So I had one all ready t go on, and one on Suzy that got done yesterday

and now I almost have two OCD polished bikes, as I have to strip the laquer off the new forks on the black bike...as they aren't as nice as the ones I had on originally....but I kinda got the bug, so i might as well do them!

Then you have 2 routes out... One, paint the hubs black, or two, polish the hubs . Rather you than me!

Just read this thread from start to finish.

Wow! What a transformation!

What did 'im indoors do with it? Scuba dive? I thought mine was getting tatty!! And I've got more miles on the clock!!!

Fantastic work to both Chris and yourself on this- you must be so proud.

Er- you don't want to come and polish my forks and downpipe do you?

What is nitromors, anyway? Sounds handy.

Oh- and I think I'll be buying myself a Dremel for Christmas...!

I think I should set up business......but then again, i don't like the muck that comes with it, so I'll give yours a miss
Nitromorse is paint stripper.
Yes buy a dremel....I'm upgrading to bigger dirlls and mops next

Suzy still has a long way to go yet. Lots a rusty bolts to replace in time. Shes still work in progress, , we replaced the cylinder head a few weeks back. She got round NW3 with a knackered one, but thanks to Rictus giving some advice we kept her from blowing up. The cams had gone, so Chris and me...yes me. swapped the front. However my choice of emergency heat resistant paint was off shade a lot( the downpipe pic shows the difference)
