Rofl, I reckon kestrel incidents are under-represented in research circles You need to form a pressure group

As for the question, I guess it's an attitude thing, and I'm very much guessing here, but when I commute on the bike it's more about just getting to where I need to be as quickly and with as little fuss as possible; whereas when I'm out at the weekend I'm more likely to indulge in a spot of "wonder if I can get my knee down round that bend" - even if I'm doing the same roads as I would do during the week.

If we assume the same figure of roughly 180 deaths on the road in the same time, that's 41 accounted for. Others could of been pedestrians, truck drivers, vans etc etc.

I'm with Luckypants, 40, regardless of what vehicle you drive/ride and even what you were doing at the time, is 40 too many.
1.3 other people killed multiplied by 107 times (comparative use of cars to bikes in miles travelled) equals 140 dead travelling other than by bike.

It was eating road kill when I must of appeared out of no-where, being the speeding biker that I naturally am.

I actually got close enough, that if I'd of known what I was looking for, I'd of been able to tell it's gender.

I thought about running it over, but I was worried about 2 things. 1) Kestrel poo, and 2) the thing has claws!!

You know the THINK advert that was in the program (but I've never seen elsewhere) of the guy on the Ducati with the van turning right, cowpat & bend tighter than you think. Did anyone else think that you do get these warnings on the road if you know what to look for?

Yeah a cow on the middle of the road is a dead giveaway!

I thought it was a good advert tbh.

Yea, cow pats/horse poo is usually preceeded by a long brown line on the floor.

Vans pulling out are usually preceeded by signs that warn of a junction. These incidents are also usually followed by the same brown lines as above though.

Is not an advert, but a bit of a training video that is used on the Bikesafe course. N. Wales Bikesafe are installing two interactive units at popular biker haunts (one is at Ponderose, next to the bogs) which show that DVD, the website, some of the animated accident scenarios etc. I believe this will be done nationally (i.e.GB wide) now.

For those of you who didn't see it and are interested in viewing the program, it's repeated tonight at 9pm on BBC2 Wales

I came off on one of the nastier bits of the wye valley, never going back there again!

A month before I spent the weekend in Wales, went up black mountain, that's a scary bit of road! The two bikers I was with no it very well and went haring off, I pootled along at 30mph and thought that was fast!! The lack of barriers just made me incredibly conscious of the drop.
