Decided to touch up the flaking paint on the VFR forks today. Started by sanding off the worst of the flaking with the forks still on the bike. Realised that was going to be hard work so removed them...

That made it easier but then showed up how much hidden bad patches of years or crud build up and knackered paint there is, so set about with a dremel and sanding bits too...

All turning out to be a more involved and time consuming process than I thought and as I intended to do it some time in the future decided I may as well strip everything down to do a proper service as I have a selection of fork oil from working on my SV. Worth doing now that the forks are off the bike as I probably won't get motivated to do it later...

Before I know it I've decided to go the whole hog and have order new oil and dust seals, bushes and then (because I may as well really do it right if I'm doing it) new uprated linear springs too.

So a small paint retouch seems to have turned into a full overhaul! I suppose it's the right time to be doing it. Got a few days to wait for parts etc now I expect.

He he! Jobs like touching up the paint never stop there in my experience Adam. One thing always leads to another.

I love the way the bike seems to be screaming at you in the first pic ...

"WHERE'S MY FRONT WHEEL GONE, YOU B*****D?"

just a heads up for people wanting to install a "live switched" USB charger to their bike without my gizmo.

find an ignition live e.g. side light bulb and take a + feed from the input side of the bulb holder wire and connect that to the + of the USB charger. then connect the other - wire from the USB charger to either the battery - or the frame.

the above will also work for energizing the coil in a relay should you need to use one.

Hmmm I was pretty sure I bought some 286 led bulbs and they fitted straight in but now thinking a bit more about it it may have been some 509t bulbs I bought as I vaguely remember seeing a couple of spares when I cleaned out the garage a few months ago

Cheers Bibs, just weighing up whether I can be bothered to mount one up front or whether I'll mount one next to the battery and have the lead flying up the bike when in use.

I have to do this to my soggy sv1000 suspension at some point good job I bet it will make a good bit of difference to the ride quality.

Waiting for parts for the VFR forks, so got to servicing the GSXR 750. It seems to run nicely and isn't too untidy for a 39k mile bike. It needs a very good deep clean and all fluids replacing. Also the very old Metzeler tyres will be swapped out for some fresh ones with only 100 miles on them I've got left over in the garage from my Street Triple.

Warming up to drop the oil. So good to have got that sound back...

Looks like a nice bike

Is that a 'new' to you GSXR 750 Adam?

Just waiting on dealers to open again so I can have the reg/rec and brake recalls done on mine then will hopefully get to keep it for more than 400 miles this time
