I wouldn't worry too much, considering osx accounts for only ~5% of the market share, there's always going to be plenty of people who are happy to support linux should MS (~90%) decide to go mad and screw with windows...

Isn't this happening with pretty much every aspect of our lives? I mean, we have so many regulations everywhere and we are spoiled with the illusion of choice everywhere you look starting from food, petrol, jobs etc.

The really scary thing is to have a 100% Microsoft controlling the way we click or think about computers.

Apple is NOT the answer to everything. It is just another choice which for some may work better than for others.

The New Microsoft 7OS mobile platform is locked down just the same.
Its Zune dependent for file management and syncing
No USB mass storage mode
No Bluetooth file transfers
You need to connect to a pc before it will let you install content you have downloaded from the device (new one on me)
I have been trialling the HTC Trophy on 7OS for the past 3-4 weeks.

Anyone been following the Sony vs Hotz case ? If you look how Sony have been behaving from a reputable source, you defiantly would think twice before buying anything Sony again if its good Business ethics that helps you decide what you purchase.
Sony even removed a brilliant feature from the PS3 with a forced software update which people had used for years and was part of the original sales spec , the OtherOS feature allowed you to install and run Linux.

...which approx half-a-dozen people used.

Sony are not covering themselves with glory, but at least they are doing it to stop people cheating online or pirating games. There is an argument that the Apple App Store is about restricting choice, not revenue protection.

What about LG electronics VS Sony over the Blue-ray patent

There is a major bunfight in process.
The Sony idea is good as it reduces the online glitching which plagues Xbox live

Consoles are a bit different IMO, you buy one of those in full knowledge that all you can run are that type of games, that's how it always was back to days of cartridges.

Oh so that gives them the right to remove a feature that genuine users paid for and if like me was a feature that was taken into account when purchasing the console.

Its also only half-a-dozen people that hack the PS3, yes some of them are pirates and some are genuine home-brew users then you get the odd people that cheat but there are loads of glitches in games without the need of hacking the OS as with COD you can put a few files on a USB stick and unlock al sorts.
Sony didn't need to remove other OS to stop the cheats, they rolled out a new user agreement that says if you have modified firmware you will be removed from the PSN which they enforced successfully.
They didn't accomplish anything by removing OtherOS **apart from peeing off genuine customers** becuase it still got cracked wide open and it was removing this feature that got the devs interested so they kind of shot them self in the foot really.

To be fair I see your point about apple and restrictive practises, look at this gem from the BBC website today

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10092298

So you have to develop your app twice now once for an iDevice and the once for anddroid if I have understood it properly.

And Microsoft got done for restrictive practises, how long before it happens to Apple.

That's old news but the truth is that you have to see Flash perform on a Mac to understand what this is about. Adobe couldn't bother developing Flash for the Apple platform and I'm guessing the 5% market share had something to do with it. When a Quad Xeon with 12Gb RAM power workhorse stalls in FarmVille and Adobe has the guts to call that acceptable, it's no surprise Steve got fed up with them and decided to go the other route.

The real restrictor here was Adobe which did not make sure their plugins are working consistently across platforms.
