Minimum cost averages around 100 pounds for a CBT, think MissYc just paid 110 for hers, then extra for the hire of the bike on the second day.
Really not sure how much single lessons are these days to progress slowly, but off the top of my head I'm pretty sure they were double the cost of a driving lesson way back when, so god knows how much theses days.

I'm 43 and passed my test when I was 18. Just got caught out by the new 125cc Learner restriction and original 2 part test back then.

They should do a similar power / engine size restriction for new car drivers IMO!

It can be a very expensive thing to do.

I did my CBT when I was 16. Within a few months of being 17, I passed both my Car and Bike test.

Car
Theory: £31
8 lessons: £115 - Bill Plant are very cheap, 5 first lessons for £56!
Test: £60

Total: £206

Bike
CBT: £90
Theory: £31
Mod 1: £10
Mod 2: £75
1 months 125cc bike Insurance: £20

Total: £226

All in all: £432

And I needed my CBT and Full car license.... The bike test was just for the love of biking

Alright lets say £700 with DAS using a hired bike, where does the fig £2K come in quoted by YC
These figs quoted are with hire bikes, what if you use your own, after all its the one your going to ride.
No more than getting a car license with lessons and considering that the younger among you will at some stage require a car license does that make a motorbike license an extravagance,is it compulsory,or just an expensive hobby, perhaps you need it for work[Not commuting]
Apart from anybody who needs it for work[courier or such] I cant see justification for all the moans, its a choice and a preference, and an expensive one at that.
Before anybody jumps in with car costs, there are plenty of decent small cars that do the same mpg as a bike for the same cost as new/s/h bike and looking at what you pay for insurance on bikes probably cheaper to insure as well

To be honest it was your choice to go the motorbike route, knowing what was required before you started so why is everybody moaning about restrictions and costs.

i think YC was saying that if they included more and more tests it going to end up costing a bomb to get a full licence.

as it already stands at a mere 600 quid anyway.

Perhaps you should know how I stand regarding the whole matter. I do think it is expensive and unjust but even if the system saves a few lives worthwhile.
Just replying and taking part in the debate hopefully not upsetting anybody.

Apart from that I'm bored

As far as cars being 'needed' and bikes just being an extravagance go I did my bike test and that was perfect for work etc you tried to get the 10 miles to sellafield in a car? I got a lift in the car with my mate a few times and on occasion it took up to an hour and a half because the traffic was that bad the bike would take me 15 minutes. You can't get onto site in a car if your in it on your own under normal circumnstances so there again the bike was perfect. The car for me was an extravagance hence why I'm extremely picky about what I will and won't drive, First car was a Rover Coupe 1.6 litre and cost me £400 deposit and then £156 a month for the insurance and that covered me third party on any one elses car which did give me the oppourtunity to drive some amazing cars Including a 300bhp Range rover sport. Sold it and got £400 for the car. I was looking at buying something else a few days ago i fancy rear wheel drive or a 4x4 so thought a BMW 318IS Coupe or an older Discovery would be nice I couldnt find an insurance qoute for less than £3000 for the driscovery and £5500 for the beemer

IMHO I dont think it does save any lives, You can kill your self just as easily at 33bhp than you can with 150bhp and the ones that are most likely to do them selves damage are the ones that will flaunt the restriction rule or ride that 33bhp bike right to the edge of there limits.
