Get real people. You can brak limbs falling out of bed, graze yourself runiing along the pavement, etc etc. No maybe not responsible, but his choice.

Get real? It's a motorcycle. A child, with no protective clothing, purely because the parent is too cheap to buy it for her, or too lazy to get her to put it on. There are everyday hazards, and then there are sheer stupid-minded dumb-ass needless risks. You can't use the "well he could be hit by a bus next time he crosses the road." argument to justify every needless risk, it's crazy, especially when the decision is being made for a child and not even by the child.

I never go out without my helmet, Richa armoured jacket, gloves, and Oxtar boots. OCCASIONALLY I ride without my Richa trousers (CE armoured) and just wearing jeans but I don't feel comfortable even doing that.

I don't have any kids but I do have a nephew and I WOULD NEVER take him on the bike without all the protective gear I could find.

I think that anyone who takes ANY passenger on their bike without adequate protection deserves everything that's coming to them - no excuses . It's a hard line to take but my dad's in the Fire Brigade and has seen enough accidents involving bikers not wearing the right kit that I don't want to become one of the statistics. . . .

trainers....shorts...3/4 length trousers.....no gloves....lids left undone.....people riding like idiots in the wet....many things scare me!

not really scares me as such, they just make me cringe...

Viney is quite right. Who are you to say what's right or wrong anyway? There are plenty of people out there who'd say you were being completely reckless for taking a child on a motorcycle at all (even with gear on), or indeed, just riding motorcycle full stop.

We'd all be alot better off if we minded our own business.

Yep. I used to be a safety Nazi, till some biker shook his head at me when I was riding across town (30 limit) in jeans,t-shirt, lid and gloves. As it happens, my jacket was out of action (away for repairs) and I was going about 3 miles and not once did I exceed the speed limit (under 30 all the way). Of course, he probably assumed I was some reckless dolt, out for a Sunday ride without adequate gear. The reality was I was riding in more safety gear, slower and more legally, than I would have been on a push bike (where I'd of had a less protective lid and been going as fast as possible), yet he'd not think anything of seeing a cyclist in just a lid go by. That's before you factor in reduced visibility, greater likelihood of being clipped, etc. when on a pushbike.
I'm not sure this extends to pillions (Personally, I won't ride unless my pillion is wearing proper kit), but that's where I draw the line. For other people it's acceptable.

As others have said, unsurprisingly, I find I ride a great deal more conservatively when not in full kit.

Well ok then, if you want to play that game, who are you to say what's right or wrong yourself? If I'm some kind of "safety-nazi" for thinking a kid shouldn't be on the back of a bike without some protective gear on, then you must be some kind of "human-rights-freedom-of-choice-nazi" for telling me I'm wrong to think like that.
I assume from your high and mighty point of view that you don't draw a line anywhere in terms of putting kids needlessly at risk, because that would be a tad hypocritical.

You're a bit confused I'm afraid. The word Nazi in this context is refering to an opressive government. That's something I'm not particularly in favour of, so refering to me as a Nazi for wanting freedom of choice is utterly wrong.

I'm also not high and mighty anything. I just happen to disagree with people such as yourself who think that people shouldn't be made to take more responsibility.
