Hey, sorry for the delay.
I was battling with a fuel line for the van which appeared to take the form of an enraged python.

The fact that it started in 6th for a moment suggests the motor isn't knackered.

If the starter was stuck on then why would the fuel pump prime etc?

Booster packs often don't get good contact with the battery terminals and so you can't put much current through.

Was your new battery charged before they gave it you?

Stick your new £69 battery on charge, disconnected from the bike and we can start there.

I could call up on Saturday after Rufforth.

normaly you check the re/rec when the engine is running,by no means a expert but if the rr is stopping it running then i suppose you could disconect it and try to start it with a charged battery, thats assuming the starter motor still works

Arsé lol maybe it has done 48,000 miles after all!

Hoping it is something as simple as a reg/reg replacement because it sounds like a straightforward swap. But if we do that & it's still not working then I'll have to swear a bit & have some beer - the sodding thing coulda done this through winter but now the good weather is coming it's spat it's dummy out.

Pah! In the good old days of resourcefulness, when men were men we would have take off our belts, looped them together and wrapped one round the bike in front's grab rail and held the other end to the handlebars and towed eachother home.

These young, sit-in-a-layby-forlornly-waiting-for someone-else-to-help" types really aught to learn a thing or two.

When I was a lad this was allllll fields!

Don't suppose you can remember if the battery was really hot/smell of burning or anything similar when you first broke down?

Paul did you buy from a dealer? If so, when?

There will be a minimum warranty (3 months I think) on your bike if bought from a dealer.

Nah there was nowt like that RH, and I checked everything bEdore we went out (chain, oil, tyre condition etc). Engine wasn't running hot & temp was fine on the dash, reg/rec area of tail unit was cool to touch from pulling over and after a while of being stationary..
