Oh yeah. The point of the post. I have lived about a bit. Liked Norway. And Copenhagen. Not all of Denmark though, although I was only really visiting there.

Ditto. When I went to the US, I found everyone super friendly (and I drove from coast to coast and visited a lot of states)

Been looking at jobs in sydney for the girlfriend and I, we are never likely to get are asses in gear unless something pretty major happened at home though

Turns out that both our professions are reasonably well paid out there in terms of $$$ to £££ so it would be possible to upsticks.

and +1 on the friendly Americans ... all the ones I have known and met have been incredibly friendly and to be honest, that's like the Americans labelling the entire UK as a bunch of lager-swilling loutish hooligans

That's where I am now! Sydney is a lovely place, though I have only been here 3 months now. It's much more relaxed than London, though pay-wise I am on around half what I was in the UK. Some things are different somethings are similar, but at the end of the day I can always go back to the UK at any point if I stop liking it. I have just had my contract extended until september next year, which is great. After that the plan is a little bit of travel around Australia before heading over to NZ to work.

You (like me) are lucky in the sense that your girlfriend can and wants to do the same thing. Since we aren't really tied down at the moment - no kids, house etc, it's really easy to do this now. I didn't go because I was hacked off with the UK. I went because I relatively young and want to see a lot of the world before I settle down. I consider myself very lucky to be in a position to do this.

I would go for it. Like I said before if you don't like it then you can always go home, but if you don't do it then you will probably always be wondering!

TBH I think I can see what Razor meant regarding the US - The 'have a nice day' with a smile for example. However it isn't fake and quite genuine - I think it does tend to clash with the slightly dry, British nature.

Just a cultural difference really.

Thats the only problem, the house we wouldnt really want to rent our house out and we dont like the idea of someone living in our house with our stuff, we are both perfectionist and really particular about where stuff is and cleanliness.

Although strictly speaking it wouldnt be a bad time to sell and invest the money from the house whilst traveling and working overseas.

Its jumping in feat first and getting my **** in gear to take the risk thats the hard bit.

Yep - The service standards are pretty good in the US in comparison with the UK - where its so hard to find its almost a revalation when you get it.
