A mild derail or a misquote or something thats funny / hilarious is Ok with me, but when you go into a post and find it full of say nearly 40 posts of chat and then the thread is next to useless I personally find it f*cking irritating.
Chatting is what the megathread is for, its not cliquey, just go and say Hi, most of the regulars are a good bunch and you wont get left out.

A derail often ldeas into an interesting discourse. Chat and spam are completely different to a derail. Chat derail is irritating, factual or funny derail isn't IMO.
