I used a TomTom710 for 3 weeks in Europe (I know you are not using it abroad) and it performed brilliantly. Only got confused a couple of times but always got good signal throughout France, Germany, Austria, Lichtenstein and Switzerland. The Garmin I had was slower, signal was poorer in UK and less user friendly. Navman looks good but the new ones are pricey. A TomTom510 or 520 would be in your price range
