Don't do that, do this:

http://www.ips.gov.uk/passport/lost-uk.asp

It's official, open 24 hrs and it's free - if he reports it lost or 'stolen' there may be a way around.

Otherwise I suggest he spends the whole night turning his house upside-down!

PS. from experience I think he'd have more luck winging it on the coach than at the airport
Same here, chances are they will take the "group leaders" passport and he vouches for the group with him as all being known to him and legit etc.

Good luck with it tho.

My son needed a passport about 6 months ago and we had one days notice. I rang the passport office and they made an appt. for 9am the following day.... his passport was issued by 11am but it cost us, sorry it cost me!!!

Best of luck

If a passport has expired and you still have the old one then same day replacement is possible- we turned up at the Passport Office in Victoria at 10:30 with no appointment, had a new passport at 15:30 same day (cost £120)

If the passport is lost then he is screwed as additional 'fraud checks' are required which means same day is not possible.
