I can't tell any difference between Braking and OEM discs, they usually claim to be lighter too but I weighed my front ones, SP-1 320mm OEM vs GSXR 320mm braking, and the SP-1 discs were lighter Not much difference in wear either. But they do look nice.

I wouldn't put EBC prolites on my bike again, they're ductile iron which means if there's a hint of damp, they rust. I used to have to boot the discs every morning as they'd rust onto the pads overnight. They did work well as discs though- some say that they retain too much heat but that was never an issue for me, it's a very good friction surface though which is more important IMO!

A mate of mine put EBC's on his FZR600R (yes, a few years ago ) and they rusted and looked hinging as soon as you put them on. Crap in the wet but much better than OE in the dry was his verdict.

So was wary about going EBC, but the Street type I got are plenty drilled and are stainless. Think they have got rid of the nasty iron ones finally.

Hmmm, maybe the SP1 brakes were lighter than a standard type discs 'cos Honda were making it as their "race rep" bike.

Figures from MCN's test on them clearly show that the Galfer ones are 220gms lighter than OE ones. 16% lighter if my rudimentary maths are correct.

Lissa swears blind that our Braking Wave ones were noticeably lighter than the OE SV ones. And who am i to argue.

You know, you're dead right - I stand corrected and apologise. I was going by information given to me by a bike breaker friend of mine - I'll be wary about what I'm told by him from now on.

I had ductile iron PFM discs on my GSXR 1000K1 with AP Racing 6 pot calipers. Yeah they rusted overnight, but they worked so well that I could forgive them anything. The rust disappeared as soon as you used the brakes anyway, so it wasn't a bother to me.

AHHhh so its not my fault...forgot i'd put them on suze last year. yes they do rust in a wiff of damp. but it does go once on the move. theres funny lines all ove mine, i presume its where the pads sit overnight, bit naff really, but they do work

Yep, that's a brilliant setup, I got to ride a K3 750 with the same and it was pretty awesome. A LOT better than just the DI discs and standard calipers/HH pads, as you probably know since you spent a bucket on parts to make it

Was that a road bike? Reason I ask is that I could like with the DI discs on a summery road bike but as soon as there's salt on the road they became more of a problem, it could be really hard to unlock them in the morning and they were wearing freakishly fast with the lost mass. Performance didn't suffer though.

That's possible actually, I hadn't thought of that. 220 grams btw, not 22 grams. You wouldn't notice 22 grams but 220... That's a fair bit. Ah, though nowI think of it I also compared weights with the GSXR prolites, which were also about the same as the Brakings. Hmm

Thanks Northwind, I've edited my previous post to show the 220gms.

God I miss pounds and ounces.
