Okay, so just to clarify, it should be... remove airbox, remove radiator, remove carbs... and then remove cylinder head covers and remove cam chain tensioner, adjust and put it back in. That sound alright?

Don't need to touch the rad at all...

Airbox off, carbs off, sneak down to front CCT, check operation, lock it back, put it back in, reset it.

Rear one is a right bugger to get to, the shock and exhaust are in the way, I found it much easier to remove the rear wheel, you're still working by feel though.

Cheers, I'll try and sort out the front one, if that doesn't work... I'll need to buy some sort of stand, haha.

Thanks

You will need a small screwdriver to 'reset' the tensioners ... you don't technically need to take them out (and it is a right faff to get them back in if you do!!), just remove the end caps (10mm socket), slot a thin screwdriver in the hole that was revealed when you removed that bolt and wind them out (not sure if that is clockwise or anticlockwise) ... wind it out to the stop then pull the screwdriver out and see if you can hear it 'snap' back into place (picture it as a thread and a spring) ... do it a few times to make sure it is snapping back.

If it doesn't or it doesn't provide any resistance when you try and turn it, then it is fecked and you will need to take it off!!!

{bit of googlefu} ... here, use the screwdriver like this see below (note: different bike totally, but same idea ... also ignore where he has his ratchet!)

He's right you know

Have to be a short screwdriver though as there's a frame crossmember right above the tensioner.

Okay. So I tried to fix it all today, no dice. I don't have a screwdriver short enough to put in the hole and it fits straight down. I did however, play about with a short enough screwdriver that it touched the bottom of the tensioner at a bit of an angle, and it felt very difficult to turn either anticlockwise or clockwise. Is it worth taking it out to have a mess about with it?

Its sprung loaded, it takes a fair twist (especially where it is hard to get a good grip on the driver).

remember if you take them out you will HAVE to wind them out (and hold them out) to get them back in again ...

If they are impossible to move, not just tough, then out they come as they are proper stuck and your problem is found!

IIRC it's clockwise to wind them out, check the service manual though as if you turned them the wrong way you could damage the camchain.

It's a right pain to get the front one back in withuot the little locking tool.
