In this country, when you pay your Road Tax, you get a little circle of paper ticket to display to prove it - I believe over with you guys its either a new rear plate, or a sticker on it depending on state?

Yup

Is the tax we pay over here so we can go on the road - problem is, none of it ever seems to be spent on the roads.

Thanks for that! And yes, we get a sticker each year which is placed on our licence plate.

Nope, they're supposed to be displayed on the left of the bike, or so I'm told. I'm not sure of how serious an offence it is, afterall, you're still in theory displaying a valid tax disc somewhere. I did once apon-a-time find a document that even said it had to be on the front-left side of the vehicle, regardless of classification. But I've no idea where that was, or if it was an accurate document.

Mine is on the left fork, just where the mud guard on the front wheel bolts to the fork.

Tax disc is supposed to be on the side of vehicle nearest to pavement when parked facing direction of traffic flow. Or something like that.

So where's your car tax disc holder? On the front (bottom left corner of the front window), right? That's not the side nearest to the pavement!

Cheers guys.
So the conclusion is that I should probably leave it where it is and get a better holder.

Umm yes it is?
parked on left hand side of road, facing with the traffic, left hand side of car is next to pavement.

*edit* Unless you are one of those furriners who drive on the wrong side of the road

AndyW, you obviously missed the point.

The front window is on the front of the vehicle, if it were legislation (and I'm not saying it is) that the tax disc had to be on the "side nearest the pavement" then this would be the left side of the vehicle, not the front.

Pedantic I know, but hey, I'm waiting for some emails to come in.
