on the public road NEVER! firstly I would be going like a bullet and secondly you'd have to have a death wish
![]() have done it on an airfield though twice and it gets a bit scary cause if you brake at 150mph you need to have stroooong arms ![]() |

Ok here's food for thought.
In the car have you ever pressed the brake with your left (clutch) foot. I find that the brakes are much sharper than o thought, because I have more finesse with my right foot. |

As for how often I use max performance, never on the road. What's the point? |

I got better at using both feet when I had an auto. I find the problem is more that my clutch foot us is used to sensitivity on the way up and the right foot is more tuned into sensititivy on the way down.

The SV brakes can be blinding if you get them setup right, most of the problem is the forks, as they tend to bottom out to easy. Heavier oil and/or new strings fixes that easy.

So IMO once you've braided lines and decent pads then there's no point touching the brakes untill you sort the forks.

Stiffen the front end and make sure the calipers are working properly. I think the brakes are a good compromise on what is, essentially, a bike for inexperienced riders. There is always gonna be a time when you wish you had more brake, even on top flight thou.

OK no need to be a pedantic hairy bugger
![]() There's no point in further modifying the brakes, untill you sorted the forks Is that better ![]()

I'll be running my race bike up to speed at the weekend on track. It now has modded original forks (racetech gold valves, Ohlins .80 springs and 20wt oil), EBC Pro Lite race discs and EBC HH pads in the original calipers.
I've raced older bikes with single piston brakes and they were more than up to the job of racing. If the brakes are in good servicable condition they should be easily good enough. From experience on a previous bike (FZR400 race bike) the brakes were as good as I could get them but it was the forks that made the biggest difference. Once I'd added gold valves and done the forks, the brakes felt much more useable, you could safely brake much harder than before. |
