I now understand. WHich to me seems crazy as to why they wont just let you transfer to W/T, WTF are they stupid, why not use your experiance and retained skill?

Saying that i belive the same is true of Special Constables and regular PC's. They have to re apply. To me it seems like a waste of money re-training someone who knows the job and has proven to be able to do it well.

You really do have to wonder what sort od cretin makes these rules.

iv gota young lad of 22 working with me at the mo. retained FF in the evenings. from 6pm to 5am he's on call with the fire service and each time gets called out to bin fires or chavs hurling bricks at them. he's hoping to go full time in his late 20's. he's got his driver training in april which he will pass..... iv told him he better so then he can take over driving while fall asleep in the passenger seat

I've 'worked with' fire Brigades for about 30 years and there rules and regulations never cease to amaze me. I know very competent fire safety officers retired on eye sight issues because they could no longer pass the operational test but the fire brigade lose a wealth of experience and knowledge - crazy.

I've also been involved in training (fitness) people wishing to join - their requirements of fitness are same as police - some of which was so old hat it was ridiculous.

Fire officers I knew once in rarely got tested for fitness again once in.

call me Mr Cynical but I wouldn't be suprised if its all fixed. They already have you as a retained firefighter and probably can't afford to loose numbers so they really want to recruit people with no experience. If that makes sense?
