Q: Can I ride other bikes? Am I covered third party to ride any bike? Can I ride a friend?s bike? Can I get temporary cover on someone else?s bike?
A: No.

We do
not provide a 'Riding Other Bikes' extension on the policy.

The 'Riding of any bike not belonging to the policyholder' cover was originally designed for emergency use only and misuse has resulted in an increase in claims due to riders having a go on an unfamiliar bike and then crashing it (eg, someone who has just passed their test riding their mate's R1).

This in turn would have a knock on effect to
all policy holders and increase insurance premiums - which is something we all want to avoid!

At eBike, we are trying to minimise costs to provide realistic premiums - if we introduce this cover across the board, premiums will go up for everyone.

We are however looking to introduce a scheme whereby people who want this cover can pay an extra premium to have it - this is still some way off though.

I was with Bennetts up until this year and was always told that they will not insure you on other bikes. I doubt that has changed.

Ah see I thought things like this would happen, I was surprised to hear Phil was still allowed.

They do this by requiring you to put your m ates bike on a multi bike policy. The premium is based on the most risk bike and a sort of admin fee for the lesser bikes.

Lets be fair. You could try to insure your CG125 for a couple of shekels and then ride your mates busa 351 days a year. It would make a mockery of the risk and associated premiums etc. The e-Bike way, ensures you have the same level of cover on your mates bike as you have on your own.

Also check your small print if you do have 3rd party cover to ride other bikes. Do you have to advise your insurer in advance of the bike you intend to ride etc.

Ring and ask, It's not on my policy either - despite the fact it was for the previous - I rang and asked (slightly miffed) and was told I was covered (because I was insured on a bike of over something or other). Then I decided I'd ring and ask again and got the same answer slightly more convincingly.

I'd get it in writing though if it was going to be a regular thing - I haven't because after spending so long on hold I couldn't face going through the whole thing again only more so on their customer service line.

Then I forgot about it.

edit: possibly irrelevant cos that's MCE - been with them a while but it's guaranteed they'll make 2 mistakes on the docs they send out first time around.

edit2: It is third party only cover

Bennets probably dont let you breath without insurance.

However, carol nash allow me to ride any machine with third party insurance (as long as the machine is legal...so I cant ride my dads GSXR, unless he kindley restrictes it first)

But Paws, once you go Kwak you never go back, so you would then have a 675 you no longer wanted to ride
