Default Re: Tips and techniques for haggling with Dealers

Tips for haggling:

1) Know what the market price of the object is;
2) Decide what the object is worth to you;
3) Do not be shy about making an opening offer low;

and most importantly of all:

4) be genuinely prepared to walk away.

NB: I have over the years failed miserably on a number of the above - mainly from actually wanting / lusting after something

IME the best deals come from taking advantage of the other party (hey, it's business yer allowed / meant to ) - from their ignorance or desperation for the cash - mainly private but also can apply to businesses......where sometimes the profit matters far less (or not at all) - it's the cash flow that is king.

Biggest frustration is dealing with Plebs who really do not care if a deal is made or not

Eddie, personally I would look in the for sale section on this forum. Quite a few of these bikes on here are looked after by people who worship them and will throw money at the bike, regardless of cost. Look for a bike which is 1/2 owners, and see if they know what they're talking about. The price of SVs at the moment mean it is definitely a buyers market. Ill be keeping mine for another year yet however it will be a sad day when I give her up. Someone will be getting a very cherished machine.
