how nieve indeed......

if it will set your mind at rest... I know your numbers are safe from cold callers because its not just a website I've stubled across its a bit of a pet project that I've been working on for a few year.

Its free at the moment because we want to prove the concept. costs are covered by the nature of the way that telco providers cross charge. there is no profit being made out of this, but equally there are no significant losses at the moment either.

there is no threat of spam because there is no margin in that for us.

We have tried to take the concept to various dating sites etc in the past, with billing models, but they just dont get it.

by launching anonymiseme, the hope was to show real world proof of concept - would you be happier if you got charged for the numbers and messages??

I thought the OP sounded a bit like an advert

Sound idea if you can get it to take off and not just con every fecker who uses it. Personally I've got no interest in it as a service, nothing personal I just have no use for it.

Good luck to you getting it off the ground.

See thats the problems with these things - the guys behind it are NEVER up-front about it - lol

The 2 problems I can see are

1) Its too good to be true -and EVERYONE says they wont pass on your details, yet through single use mailboxes etc I know thats not true - and all I have is your word on it.

2) It would be inherently DANGEROUS for anyone to deal with someone on a dating site who isnt upfront and honest enough to give a real number. I have a friend who seriously considered setting one up and looked at it from a load of angles. He gave up on the idea as his desire for easy cash was over-ruled by how would he feel if someone got attacked/killed due to meeting someone through his site.

Anonymity has its place, but person to person contact isnt it.

And the government/police would be forever on your back under the RIPA act

Sounds good & something I would be happy to use.
I know somebody who is going to change their mobile number after getting to many crank calls when they advertised their bike for sale on MCN
The problem I see is it doesn't work for calls, so it wouldn't be much use to give it to someone, either for dating or advertising, you don't know how they are going to call you or text you. Plus say you give it out to someone for dating, they are going to find out when they can't call you, you have to own up & you'll have ruined your chances if you decide you do actually like them

I've had a look around the BT website, and there's no pricing plans specified on it that I can see. I'm always sceptical of companies that don't freely announce prices, it usually means it's expensive.

Thanks for the thought though.
Ring John and talk to him. They can do a lot more than you'll see on the BT site, and their pricing is not stupid either.
