I would highly reccomend the new alpinestars SP2s...I kind of find the SP1s a little OTT, although they do offer a tonne of protection...
SP2s offer great comfort and pretty decent protection however, and feel like they will last a loonnnng time. DO NOT buy J and S own branded summer gloves...if you come off you will loose skin and possibly a fingernail....

I went to my local J&S and tried on loads of pairs, the best ones I found were some J&S own ones. £29.99 too, don't suppose they'll last long but they are comfy and relatively thin.

Brilliant gloves, even in light rain.

I'll add a nod in the direction of the SPADA gloves too. I managed to find a much cheapness price in one of our independent bike shops up here and other than the velcro being a little weak on the cuff, (the wrist strap is fine!) they're great. Having really shaped to my hands - they fit "like gloves". For winter coming.... (plan ahead!) I'll be looking at their waterproof jobs. Northy recommended those for winter riding a while back and I tried them on in a dealership to find them cosy and comfy. Again much cheapness - yay!
