Best ones are free ones!

I managed to get a set of Carbone Lorraine pads for free last year with a set of Metz Z6's. Just fitted them, and i can report that yes, they work.

I can't tell the difference between these and the OEM's I had from new. Maybe I'm not good enough, or just don't care that much. Lets be honest, SV brakes are not noted throughout the biking world as being class leading, so I doubt that spangly pads will make anyone on an SV suddenly be able to outbrake Rossi!

EBC HH are good in the curvy... As Spannerman says, they only wear discs a little faster because they create more friction when used hard, and that's what brake pads are SUPPOSED to do It's like buying a bigger bath and complaining you use more water...

I do like Carbon Lorraine, but I never used those in the SV calipers. Armstrong Racing HH are good, but they don't last well at all so they're not a very practical choice (I wore out a pair in about 4000 miles with the GSXR calipers!)

I am not convinced, observation says otherwise ... I do realise there are a few factors that could bias this mind.

However, logic dictates that if the pads are 'soft' then they can offer the same breaking resistance/performance as harder pads, just more sacrificial on the pad wear compared to the harder one is it not?!?!?

A bit like rubbing two bits of steel together, you can cause friction-x if you press hard enough together and both bits will wear about the same ... rub some steel and some say copper together and you can attain friction-x, but the steel remains virtually untouched, but the copper takes the majority of the friction wear, no?!

Which is related to people not maintaining their brakes and fitting stronger pads to make up for it

There are a lot of good pads available these days such as Carbon Lorraine etc. Even Armstrong have come a long way since they were introduced, (they were c rap then).

It's worth mentioning that a lot of claims to excessive disc wear after new pads have been fitted, are down to deficiencies in the caliper & not in the pads themselves. In the case of the SV front calipers this is usually the caliper not sliding properly on it's mounts.

Ok, but don't forget the oem Tokico Toyo pads are HH-specified too. I wonder if they are more or less sintered.

Good morning all.

Indeed the standard Tokico pads are HH rated, & they work pretty well too. I would say that they contain less sintered material that aftermarket pads such as EBC, or Carbon Lorraine. Hence they don't quite have the same 'bite' at extreme conditions.
Standards such as the HH friction rating obviously have a range of friction coefficient that any pads performance must obtain. Therefore some HH rated pads will work better than others, if their performance is at the upper end of the required range.

Cheers.
