Yes it could be the fuel. Also charge the battery, FI's finicky sometimes.

It's a carbed SV and the battery is on an optimate (I should have said). I'll try new fuel though.

Oh bugger sorry thought we were in a different thread. I'm obviously caught in a timewarp.
I reckon wet fuel, open the carb drain screws and see what crap comes out, they might need cleaning out of fuel varnish since they've been sat a while.

Sorry to be a biff but where are the carb drain screws? I know where the carbs are but not the drain screws.
Cheers for the advice up to now guys. I feel like I'm getting somewhere. |

On the bottom of the carbs, they're a git to get to. You'll need a ball ended 4mm allen key IIRC

The allen key bit shouldn't be a problem and I've got used to skinning my knuckles trying to get her to run so I'll give that a go soonest. Cheers.

I got hold of some ball end allen keys at last and drained the carbs today. Still no go on the starting front. I'm thinking that I may need to remove and clean them.
Any other opinions? |

Well before you get messy just have a quick check that they're seated on the boots and the balancing caps/pipes are still on. Then I think this is an option.
Stupid question are you trying to start it on choke all the time? |

They are seated fine on the boots. To be honest I'm not sure what the balancing caps and pipes are. There is one pipe which is open from the top of each carb. I assumed that this was some kind of a breather pipe.
I've tried starting it with no choke, full choke and everything inbetween now. |

Right, after much playing and a can of carb cleaner and a fresh tank of fuel she's running. However she's backfiring a lot and seems to get bogged down above around 7000RPM. A mate seemed to think that it could be the coil pack breaking down.
I was over the moon when she fired but this is a bit of a kick in the teeth to be honest. Any ideas? |
