T mobile have a good deal with the Flext plan.

Hubby has an iphone and I have a Tytn 11 aka O2 Stellar. The iphone is gloriously easy to use and the interface is gorgeous. Perhaps your mum may like that? The one that is coming out mid July will be 3G and have a GPs inbuilt but that would command a higher premium I suspect. You also have the horribly-easy-to-spend-a-fortune itune download access.

The Stellar is a WinCE phone and is quite neat with the slidey flip up screen and qwerty keyboard. If you have fat fingers though it is a bit tricky. I like the functionality with Outlook, Excel etc and of course you can get MS Reader (I have about 60 e-books on my 2gb Micro SD card) as well as a fair mp3 player. It is also a lot smaller than their last WinCE keyboarded phone/PDA thing the XDA Exec so you don't feel like Dom Jolly in the cinema when you take a call any more . It also has in built GPS but you need to buy the software separately or get it in a deal.

Just a few thoughts anyhoo...
