If its a Blue cable then its the correct one - if its black then thats not a console cable.

As said, I have a Console cable you can have sitting here - you could even pop by Soho tomorrow and say hello to the gang and pick it up

I'm sure it's the right cable, with the correct serial connector but no luck!

It could be, Nokia make black rollover cables.

Yeah the CSS's aren't "proper" Cisco as they bought out another company back in the days when it was still called Local Director - they look like IOS and smell like IOS but it ain't quite IOS.

Last time I played with one (well, two) was about 18 months back but I'm pretty sure it was the standard rolled blue cable, 9600 baud, no parity, 1 stop bit. Ensure your serial port works first - those USB to serial port converters often go pear and start assigning all manner of COM port numbers. Side note, why won't laptop manufacturers make lappys with serial ports?

If that doesn't work, then you can reset a 3750 by holding in the mode button on the front panel while powering in rather than having to do the device register trick, though if memory serves, the CSS doesn't have any front buttons.

EDIT: If you need to make a cable the pinout is 1-8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5 for rolled cables. Any old tatty bit of cat5 and a crimper is all you need. Although you'll also need a DB9 serial to RJ45 convertor (I seem to have dozens of those floating around and I'm not entirely sure why as I can't remember using one for a long time).

Please ensure that if there is a cable exchange it is done under the cover of darkness and away from the general public, don't want that Nerdyness rubbin' off do we.

I take it you do know these are CatOS switches*

Can't remember off the top of my head, but a straight cable normally works rather than the standard rollover, I used to keep two of the 9 pin adaptors and use a cat5 cable between for these type.

* dependent on model and upgrades obviously.

Cheers Mark.
