right guys, had 2 days now. well its 930-130 riding time so not quite a day reallt but hey ho.
yesterday (sat) was mu first time on a bike after my cbt (2 months ago) straight on a gs500 and it was fab. I was a bit shaky at first but soon got into it. The thing seemed a hell of a lot more stable than the 125's before. It also was a lot more comfy. Had a ride around then stopped off for a bit to eat (11.30) Jumped back on the bike and set off for the afternooon and disaster stuck. A taxi pulled out missing me and hitting the guy behind. Wrote the bike off and he went over the bonnet. Not doing funny here but a halifax taxi so probably no insurance, licence etc. Anyway the guy was lead away in cuffs after the intructor called the police (he wouldnt) Cut the day short but im pleased to say the guy only has a bruised set of balls ![]() Today went out again and much better. managed to have a cheaky thrash of the bike that was fab. I must have looked like the joker i was smiling so much ![]() CAn you roll up to a juntion in traffic with your foot down? also on really tight slow corners uphill i have a bit of issues with a wobble. Any ideas on how to sort it? Cheers and loving it. (appart from halifax, im not from here and the roads are a bit complicated) A pointy might be a bit out of my budget chap. Im after something cheep ![]() |

Oh and i get pains in my hand after a bit. I think its because ive got thick winter gloves on and there leather thats stiff. Is there an easy way to break them in? So that its easier on the levers? I think this is the problem and although sommer goves look nice in the sunshine ive yet to see more than 5 mins of it not raining so i wold have had very wet and cold hands by now.

I wouldn't - the examiner will be looking for slow-speed control so keep your feet on the pegs unless stationary.
Keep the revs up (tends to stabilise the bike) and slip the clutch (stops jerking from the throttle) |

Wot he said.
Try using a kiss of back brake, too. Don't let the engine fight against it - but a little pressure on the pedal will make things a bit more stable at slower speeds. I passed my test a couple of weeks ago, so this is all fresh for me! ![]() I've managed to get my speed down to below walking pace on my SV650 by doing what simesb says. I even do the odd 'victory-roll' u-turn for fun. Hehe! ![]() |

hI,
yea the back brake thing helps a lot. Really usefull. I mean when your stationary at lights and the car/bike infront move forwards is it ok to move up with your foot down? Any hints to keep my indicators off? I mean im sure you could get some self cancelling ones ![]() |

As soon as the engine spins up, right as you let the clutch out, you should be able to get your left foot up on the peg.
Try dragging a tiny bit of back brake as you pull away and the bike will become much more stable - so you can get your foot up quickly. Also, having both feet up seems to help you balance. It's counter-intuitive, but I've found it to be true in my limited experience. As for turning the indicators off, for my test I got into the habit of remembering by pushing the switch as the front wheel straightens after the turn. Then I checked it again. And again. And again. ![]() Of course, I'm only a newbie myself - so I might just be completely wrong! It works for me, though. Last edited by 5150; 04-08-08 at 11:40 AM. |

they will always have a go for the little things like the indicators,
just keep pushing the button after every turn, even if your 50 ft down the road you still turned them off , and thats what counts. As for the turning ......what everyone else says , treat it like a slow down or U turn so use your back break ( but just a little ) |
