Bike magazines long term test bikes?

They go back to the manufacturers, get throughly inspected and then registered to a dealer who sells it on as secondhand or ex-demo.

PS. The bikes are returned to standard before going back to the dealer/manufacturer unless they are fitted with OEM aftermarket parts.

I've read articles where the author has commented on how his credit card is at its limit or he's waiting til payday to get bits for his test bike.

They do pay for some of the products they have, although a lot of them get a good discount because in the end they are advertising the manufacturers product.

With 'tartsbikes' they get a lot of stuff for free, its usually the real expensive stuff that won't sell in high numbers that they will pay for at a discounted price (Akrapovic full systems for example).
