Blue, you don't like Michelin's, I prefer the PR2's (pilot road).

Personal choice innit.

Compared to the Z6's, I find that PR2s warm quicker, and allow me to push the bike harder in the wet. I commute all year round, so the ability in the wet is a must. Longevity is a bonus, but not such a requirement as it was before.

Compared to the stock Dunlops that came on the bike, well, lets not bother as the comparison is just so vast!

Would I keep up with you on a track with my PR2s? Probably not. But I'm safe on the road, at the pace I ride, which is all that counts really.

Even on trackdays, people don't push that hard lap after and those that do, usually run race tyres and warmers (nb. having no chicken strips, getting you knee down, doesn't mean you are at the limit of the tyres grip)

So while they might be the tyre of choice at the moment in motoGP, it makes feck all difference in the real world. Except the company image and the not-so-bright people thinking that their Michellin tyres on their road bike must be as carp as they are in MotoGP
+1. I've just changed from Bridgestone BT014 (OEM tyre) to Michelin Pilot Power 2ct's on my GSX-R600. I think the difference is night and day and the Michelin's feel much better than the Bridge's did to me. Hand-made MotoGP tyres are so far away from production tyres it's not worth comparing. At the bleeding edge of the spectrum Bridgestone are performing better than Michelin but that's with rubber designed to work for a specific bike, at over 100 degrees for 45 minutes, not rubber that lasts thousands of miles in all conditions, for a wide range of riders / bikes.

Just my $0.02

Cheers,
Matt

Chalk and cheese as others have said. Road tyres are not even remotely close to the GP hoops, except in shape. Just because they are not so good at GP level does not mean they make rubbish road tyres. C'mon Blue! It's like saying as Kawasaki generally have not been that competitive in motoGp (Brno not withstanding) all their road bikes must be cr*p. And no, they are NOT (before any smartass goes there).

Uh... the tyres in MotoGP are nothing like the road tyres we get, comparing them is like comparing the Renault F1 car with a Cleo.

More people like Michelins than dislike them, otherwise they wouldn't still be one of the top names. Just becasue a tyre doesn't suit your riding style or meets all your needs mean the whole brand is rubbish.

When you have a valid argument to bring to our attention let us know....

I had Michelin Pilot Road2 2CTs on my Daytona 955i and they felt way better than the BT010s did when they were new. Confidence in both wet and dry was better and they lasted twice as long. For a sports touring tyre they were excellent, far better than the supposed sports tyre that Bridgestone marketed the BT010 as.

Following blue's logical trail of thought then we shouldn't touch dunlops as they couldn't hack it or run at pace when they were running on MotoGP.

I can see what his point is, even though his statement might be a little charged with whatever his experience and personal (which is probably what ends up being).

However, it is the second time that michelin has been caught out with a "bad" tyre (It's all very relative at MotoGP level). I would love to hear what the teams are saying to michelin just now, and what they are going to do about it as they have messed up good and proper in that last race.

It doesn't inspire confidence in the brand, or confidence that their r&d bods are the best in the business.
Technology obviously works its way to the mass market eventually. Obviously it's not that important or else the manufacturers with little or no involvement in top level racing with tyre-war spurred development would be selling the worst tyres by far. Which they're not.

But, if GP is the forefront of tyre technology, then whatever the standard of their current road tyres, Michelin are playing development catch up at at least this extreme level.
