What should I look for? The battery seems strong.

regarding the reg/rec, here's an extract from the electrical section of the manual explaining what it does on the sv

Thanks Charlie. That's a good place to start. Also, I found the complete part list for the SV650 line with schematics here:

Sounds like a 'load' problem' which would say you have damaged or corroded wires some where. So I would take all the plastics off and check the loom for chaffin' and the connector blocks for water damage. Also take the start relay off and have a look as the main 30amp fuse connection there is known to corrode, as its the main fuse you loose everything.

I'd check 2 things first of all- make sure the battery terminals are well connected, and wiggle the main 30 amp fuse (which is connected to the starter relay, just under the seat on the right hand side). My suspicion is that it's the latter, and that it's vibrations that causes it to happen at specific revs.

I had something similar to this once. My symptoms was that whenever I went over a big bump the engine would cut, just as if the sidestand had been put down (all lights still on, but engine cut). It got progressively worse until it was randomly cutting just sat at traffic lights.
In the end I traced it down to a Suzuki 'crimp' type connection in the loom, it was a right sod to find, but find it in the end I did!! ![]() I'll try and remember which wire it was, but the join was near/under the seat somewhere .... I can't see it is a reg/rec issue myself ... sure it might be, but I'd say it is much less probable than a broken/breaking wire ... |

Could it be the old sticky choke problem? If your choke cable or the carb plungers are sticking,it will be running too rich, and this could lead to it cutting out as you increase the revs.

Thanks Blue. It does sound similar. I've played with the fuse and bat terminals, but I still have this issue. If you can remember where you found the crimp problem I'd be very grateful. Best,
