I don't know how long you've lived around there, or have been driving, but the roads in the area have been in a poor state for many many years. They are resurfaced as an absolute last resort, and at minimal cost.

Some examples... Forest Road: Resurfaced 3 times in as many years... still falling apart not 10 years later.

Upper Grosvenor Road, near High Brooms... suffered about a 18 months of road works causing endless delays. Was then resurfaced with a beautiful bit of tarmac - best for miles. It was being dug up again for more facilities works not 6 months later.

A264 between Langton and East Grinstead - one of the nicest runs in the area... pitty about the dangerous road surface, particularly the "high grip" surfaces around the bends either side of Ashurst. Just bloody dangerous.

you're right there Bill. I love the 264 as you know but it is less than ideal, especially when wet. I can only think of short stretches of road that have a good surface, and then they're usually covered in mud!!!
