I don't understand why he even need to show any ID just to get a hotel room in the first place. No hotel in this country has ever asked me for any. If they did, they would be out of luck as I don't carry anything that could ID me.

Most Hotels ask for proof of who you are, its probably the fist thing he had to hand. I have often used mine as proof of who i am.

I think this is a non-event. The guy refused a room has gone back to his unit in Iraq, it was his mum that has raised a fuss. As Baph pointed out, he could have gone to another hotel.

Yes and they might have a problem themselves now as the Police are investigating abusive phone calls made to the hotel.

Talk about a making a mountain out of molehill!

I think it shows total lack of respect and the hotel should should be dealt that way about it.

If that's the blanket policy in use, fair enough. Just the same as many many hotels I've come across that don't allow children to sleep there.

For all we know, the hotel may of had issues in the past with regards noise/property damage etc, and rightly or wrongly, attributed these previous problems to military personnel. But then, I'm just guessing.

The truth is, no-one except those directly involved know the reasons for the hotel having that policy.
not totaly legal, just its not been tried out properly in court. Its illegal to deny accepting a couple of the same sex, so they could not use the right to refuse clause in that case, extend it further and refusing admission will not be allowed without reasonable cause.

There is apparently a pub in northampton that does not allow any bikers, that can be argued as discrimination to a group of people and illegal as in the case above.

So, its they are on weak ground using that clause. Its only a matter of time.
