We have quite a few 50w halogen downlighter thingies. The semi skimmed ones are awful but I've dioscovered chavtastic LED ones in B&Q. Not cheap at £9 for 2, but they use all of 1.2w each. So almost 1/50 of the leccy used by the normal ones. Even though the LEDs are white, they emit a sort of blue light. You can get blue ones too - they'd be very very blue...

Will try to take a pic later
Running at 12v right? You need to consider that the transformer will be wasting quite a bit of juice ... so you need to add that consumption in the pot ...

Got some of them in the bar. They are very blue, but dim. Think fairy lights.

On a mixing console at work the LED lights that light that up are the White variety but they have also added a Red LED and this makes the light emitted actually White instead of the Blue tint. Very clever I thought but I also wonder why LED manufacturers havent done this also?

We have some Asda's own energy bulbs, they are £1.69 each I think.

They are like a twisted tube into a small ball so the surface area is huge but the bulb tiny, it lights up instantly and gives a warm normal bulb type light, none of this harsh 'white' light that traditional energy bulbs give.

FYI some people have found that fluorescent bulbs don't seem to give enough light out (even when warmed up). Apparently you need around a 3rd of the wattage of a standard light bulb, yet some 'replacements' are nowhere near that. Worth checking.

Of course those on PH may recognise this from a recent thread there
