Yes insulin can kill if you inject it into a non-diabetic but its not gonna kill if its injected into a diabetic person no matter how you inject!!
A lot of pregnant women feel they don`t want to inject into their abdomens whilst they`re pregnant and thats obv for psychological reasons. I`d just concentrate on injecting via your upper thighs and upper arms on a rotational basis. Good luck and I hope all goes well |

Also injecting insuling directly into muscles speeds up the effect of insulin. Injecting directly to a vein can cause a dramatic dip in your sugar level. I think picking up a phone and asking someone qualified will be more useful than advice from anyone on this forum unless they happen to be diabetes consultants. |

Eh? I was referring to the site of the injection rather than the amount of insulin..... the original question referred to the injection site didn`t it?? obviously if a diabetic injects more insulin than has been prescribed then its gonna cause them to have a hypoglycaemic attack and if not acted upon could cause death and a diabetic would know that the insulin is administered sub-cutaneously and not intra-muscular or god forbid into a vein.
I think that there are one or 2 people on here who are competent to give medical advice and I`ve been giving advice to diabetics for about 8 years now. I would hope that unless someone was sure about the advice they were giving then they`d refrain from posting. |

Kitkat, give me a bell if you like, I've been diabetic 23 years
![]() I do my long-lasting insulin into the thighs and short into the upper arm. I use teeny 5mm needles though, works for me with my twiglet arms. My clinic's been trying to get me off arm injections, because exercise changes the absorbtion rate, but I get on fine with it. Bum should be absolutely fine- when I was diagnosed my mum had to inject me in the bum for ages- but it's quite hard to relax when you're injecting there, bit awkward. Stomach freaks me out, it's completely irrational but I just can't deal with the idea at all, that's where I keep all my insides. Ugh ugh ugh. I had a nurse try to convince me to do it, I thought I was going to be sick, she just wouldn't leave the subject so I had to walk out before I lost my lunch (and I was supposed to be the Experienced Voice Of Reason for a bunch of noobs at the time!)

thanx for all the advice everyone. Im back at clinic on Monday so will ask about bum then. Managed to inject stomach last night and managed to get a lovely wee black bruise. but its getting easier. used thigh this morning and it was ok. Its the thought of the needle more than actual pain. My finger tips are aching though, testing blood sugars before and after every meal. maybe Ill eat less lol.

I just don't understand why people go for this sort of advice to a bike forum? I am glad you are qualified to give advice. But am not sure everyone here is? I certainly am not, hence saying go and speak to someone qualified as incorrect administartion of insulin can kill/cause a serious health hazards. That's the only thing I tried to say. Becuase this is in idle banter which is predominantly not bike related and maybe becuase Kitkat knows there are a few insulin dependant diabetics on here i.e Northy and I can think of another off the top of my head.

Our lass is pregnant, and insulin dependant.
She injects into stomach and all is well. Sometimes she bruises, but it has no risk to the baby at all. As has been said, anywhere fleshy is good, keep away from muscles. If you use your belly, change the location each time. If you want to PM me to ask her to PM back that's fine. |
