Not always. The use of "me and my mate" is perfectly acceptable in todays English, but only mid-sentence; the useage of "My mate and I" is normally only used at the beginning of a sentence. I'd have to agree that "my mate and me" is an awful and grammatically incorrect term.

It is far kinder to kill the reprobates who insist on defiling my cellular telephonic communication device in this manner. Such behaviour by said miscreants should never go unpunished.

However, if you were to say, '...my mate and myself,' I believe that's perfectly correct.

I don't think it really matters how correct one is if they are suffering from drug induced grammer nazism.
It's just other people's grammer that ****es them off.

This is all tish.

Language evolves over time and what was unacceptable yesterday might well be acceptable today. Churchill said that 'with' is a bad word to end a sentence with.

So do I choose war hero or pedant? Hmm, hard choice, that one.

Very true. However, it would seem the english language is at risk of devolving into an incomprehensable mess. As language evolves it still needs maintain a structure, and that seems to be on its way out. I certainly find it a chore to read text with no punctuation.
